I completely enjoyed doing this song, yes it was nerving wrecking first but I got the hang of it. We [Steezy Stylish and I] eventually performed it on stage in Thema [East Rand] and everybody loved it, so listen 2 it n tell me what you think...

Mama J: Janet Buckland

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

After winning the SABC 2 Woman of the year Award, I had to do a story on her, it was insightful and as usual a pleasure to sit down to Janet and discuss the issues and challenges she faces within South African theatre industry. I wanted to know how she uses theatre as a tool for transforming young people but more importantly how she sees the role of women.

St Mary's story

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

This was by far the saddest story I had to do for my journalism, development and democracy course. I realised that children go through a great deal and then they are expected to be normal. But this isn't the case. They are forced to grow up rapidly when their mother dies because of drug overdose or when their father leaves the family with absolutely nothing. They literally fend for themselves and this sometimes means selling drugs or even themselves just to make a quick buck. Development journalism makes one aware of the dire need in SA and this story uncovers what needs to be done in order for the future of this country to be somewhat bright.

The rape case in Lady Frere

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

This story was a follow up on the TAC members who were protesting and hoping to finally get justice. It was said that a man had repeated raped 6 girls between the ages of 5 and 11years old. Some tested for HIV and the tests had come back positive and the other girls were found to be infertile because of the repeated rapes. The TAC members went to court to find justice and closure to this matter but unfortunately when they arrived outside the court house the case was postponed again for the 11th time. I have no reason why rape cases, particularly ones that involve young children, take so long. There needs to be some solution because the situation is becoming dire.

Celebrating our languages

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

I did this interview on my 21st birthday, meeting Lebo Mashile was a great way to start off my day. The interview was about celebrating SA languages, it was done in 7 minutes and the production was fused with Napo's sound bites. Lebo was cool n off course we spoke about the East Rand [JHB] since we are both familiar with it. I think I should invite her to come recite a poem or two at my wedding.... hmm? Well anyhow here's the piece.

First Advert

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

This ad was made for Wordfest 08, this is a festival running parallel with Nationals Arts fest in Grahamstown and this ad played on SAfm before the festival. Zethu Mashika produced the beat and Sifiso Pule assisted with the copyrighting. It was my the first time producing an ad and I was quite excited while making it, actually made two but this was one was played on air.

Tuesday Sep 23, 2008

This package I did some time last year during the national arts festival, really enjoyed producing this...
